7 x 5", oil on linen, 2013. Sold.
This painting is a demo I did for a still life class I teach. It’s a humble little still life using red and orange lantana and a repurposed Perrier bottle as the vase.
The two elements are a natural complement to each other which makes for a nice color balance. I started this painting by toning the canvas with a thin wash of burnt sienna and cadmium red.
I often tone a canvas with a color that is the complement of a primary element in the painting. The tone shows through and adds appeal to the green bottle and leaves while contributing to the color of the lantana.
