24 x 30", oil on linen, 2013. Sold.
This painting is one of a series of ballerina paintings with the same model. The model is Rachel, a professional ballet dancer. She is wearing a costume from Houston Ballet's "Swan Lake."
Rachel is backlit and the wood floor and dark curtain behind her create a theatrical atmosphere. She is only somewhat mindful of her stretching.
Instead, her attention is toward the light, presumably the stage. The gaze is meant to convey that while this is a solitary scene there is action outside of the picture that engages the dancer's attention and creates a narrative that is left up to the viewer to script.
This painting received First Place in "The Woodlands’ Art League, 2013, Spring Judged Show". Sold
